Plastic Recyclables

Notice of Change

For many years, the United States has sold and shipped most of its recyclables to China. The Chinese manufacturers were accepting many more types of plastics than the United States manufacturers were which expanded the list of plastic products which could be recycled. However, starting in the summer of 2013, China established new policies to eliminate "dirty recyclables."

The good news for Ramsey is that we have only one problem, plastics. The only plastics which will be accepted are those clean plastics marked Number 1, 2, or 5, basically water and soda bottles. But please note that any frozen food microwave trays or food platters which are marked Number 1, 2, or 5 are not acceptable.

Thin Plastic Bags

The Borough of Ramsey will once again accept thin plastic bags from Ramsey residents at our Recycling Center only. There are containers set up for you to conveniently drop off thin plastic, including:
  • Dry cleaning clear plastic bags
  • Newspaper plastic sleeves
  • Supermarket plastic shopping bags
No exceptions. No other items. No black plastic bags.

Thank you for your recycling help.

Shop Rite accepts supermarket plastic bags.
